Support Families Affected by ADHD

This specialist 2-day training covers essential aspects of supporting parents of children with ADHD whether on a one to one basis, as a support group leader or as an ADHD  training facilitator. Many parenting practitioners who have initially received training in a generic parenting or family intervention programme have benefited from our specialist ADHD parent support training, and are now successfully helping families overcome the challenges they face.

Programme Modules Include:-

Communication Excellence

• Gain specialist rapport skills to facilitate improved communication with parents on a 1:1 basis.
• Improve your understanding of the impact of the communication and learning preferences most frequently associated with ADHD.
• Learn how to best manage group dynamics for better parent support.

Parent Support Specialist Skills

• Develop a solution-focused approach to supporting parents.
• Be able to support parents to become successful advocates on behalf of their child.
• Gain skills to help parents identify their own personal outcomes.
• Gain skills to facilitate change within the family.

ADHD and the Family

• Gain an undrstanding of how ADHD can affect the family.
• Gain an understanding of the possible impact of parental ADHD.
• Identify the risk factors associated with ADHD.
• Learn skills and strategies to calm the chaos at home.

Legislation, Guidance and Recommendations

• The Aiming High for Disabled Children Programme.
• Understand the NICE Guidance on the diagnosis and and management of ADHD in children,young people and adults.
• Be able to advise parents on the Special Needs Code of Practice as it applies to their child.
• Gain an understanding of ADHD and the Disability Discrimination Act.
